Outline of Research

Our laboratory (microRNA Research Network) promptly started the research of microRNA(miRNA). We have created the miRNA expression signature of cancer cells and performed functional analysis of miRNA. So far, we have finished creating miRNA expression profiles in head and neck cancer, esophageal cancer, lung cancer, urothelial cancer, renal cancer and prostate cancer. Also, we colud find the miRNAs which are down-regulated in cancer cells and prove that those miRNAs functioned as tumor suppressors through functional analysis. Those results have led to a number of papers in recent years.
A unique aspect of miRNA is that miRNAs regulate multiple protein coding genes. We have also elucidated novel tumor suppressor micro-RNA – protein coding oncogene molecular networks by genome-wide analysis as the biologically important topics.
